There is a special niche for volkswagen lovers, and it does not necessarily include buggy lovers. However, I do have a thought on the drivetrain for both classes.  It involves the mating of a 200 mm flywheel to an average motor and early transaxle. It can be done and does not need a vehicle specific bellhousing or transaxle; it does however necessitate the enlargement of the transaxle housing for flywheel fitment.  Just keep in mind that anything can be done, just let us know what you desire.
